Funded initially by Digicel and other private sector partners, and latter by the Expo Live-Expo Dubai 2020, the Young Innovators Challenge was undertaken to promote innovation through entrepreneurship, provide seed funding to young entrepreneurs with creative and innovative ideas and enhance and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

The Innovators Challenge was launched July 20, 2016 at the GIDC and received support from the private sector with main sponsorship provided by Digicel. As such, the Challenge was promoted as the GIDC-DIGICEL Young Innovators Challenge. Sponsorship was also provided by Grenada National Lotteries Authority, Antillean Group, KFC-Pizza Hut, SP’s International and Automotive Warehouse. During the period 2018-2019, GIDC received support from Expo-Live Dubai to continue the execution of the Challenge. Twenty (20) individuals and teams who participated in the Challenge received seed funding in the amount of EC$10,000 each. The Seed funding was used to absorb the cost of equipment and other materials required for the successful start-up of operations.
