In June 2012 USAID approved US$199,000 for the GIDC to upgrade the skills of 120 youth at risk under the Caribbean Youth Empowerment Programme (CYEP) supervised by the International Youth Foundation (IYF) based in Baltimore. The project which officially started on September 4, 2012, was successfully delivered. The key highlights of this programme are that 44 young people started a business from a target of 48 and the entrepreneurial skills and competencies of 136 young people were built and, in some cases, enhanced as a result of training in entrepreneurial skills.
